Large Format Map of Southwestern Vermont (1888), 26×38 U.S. Coast Guard and Geodetic Survey map of southwestern Vermont, northwestern Massachusetts and ‘east of the Hudson River’ New York State. Based on surveys from 1885-1888, the beauty of this sepia-tone map is its depiction of several of the Rutland’s predecessor roads, i.e., the Lebanon Springs R.R. from Wyomanock north to Bennington; the Bennington & Rutland R.R.’s branch down from North Bennington, and the B&R main north towards Rutland. Among other lines shown are B&M predecessor roads such as the Fitchburg R.R. mainline through North Adams, Mass., and the Fitchburg’s Bennington Branch. The map is loaded with topographic detail and is truly the perfect nostalgia item/gift for den wall, family room or office.
